WWH-OBD – ISO 27145
The Worldwide Harmonized OBD (WWH-OBD) specification aims to harmonize the persistent regional differences in emissions monitoring and consolidate them into a single international standard. The goal is to establish a unified procedure for vehicle diagnostics regarding the monitoring of exhaust-related systems in passenger cars and commercial vehicles.
The United Nations has assigned this task to ISO. In doing so, existing standards (ISO 15031, ISO 14229, ISO 15765) are utilized or supplemented.
The international standard does not define the limit values themselves; these continue to be set by regional or national bodies. Instead, the aim is to define a uniform approach to emissions control.
To date, WWH-OBD is based on the use of CAN. An expansion to include the use of DoIP over Ethernet is planned for the future.
