KWP 2000 on CAN – ISO 15765

With the adoption of CAN as the bus system, the application layer of KWP 2000 was migrated from K-Line to CAN. To use KWP 2000 with CAN, many manufacturers adopted the draft standard ISO/DIS 15765. However, the draft standard for KWP 2000 on CAN was not officially adopted as a standard.

The main differences lie in the addressing of the control units and the services used to configure the data transmission layers. However, the draft standard for KWP 2000 on CAN was never officially adopted as a standard, as the standardization process took a very long time and, in the meantime, a protocol that was independent of the bus system became necessary.
